The Ethiopian Horticulture Producer Exporters Association (EHPEA), in partnership with TradeMark Africa (TMA), has officially launched a new E-learning platform, 'Horti-Campus', at an event held at the Haile Grand Hotel in Addis Ababa.
This digital platform aims to enhance capacity building in Ethiopia's horticulture sector by providing flexible, interactive, and accessible training for professionals across the country.
Developed with the support of TradeMark Africa, Horti-Campus is intended to address knowledge gaps, improve productivity, and support compliance with both national and international standards. The platform features a range of training modules covering key topics such as Good Agricultural Practices (GAP), environmental sustainability, post-harvest handling, export procedures, and occupational health and safety.
Horti-Campus is designed to overcome traditional barriers to education by offering scalable, on-demand learning opportunities, including self-paced courses and real-time assessments. It caters to a wide audience—from entry-level farm workers to senior agronomists—supporting skill development and career advancement.
This launch represents a major milestone in EHPEA's ongoing efforts to build a skilled and competitive workforce within the horticulture industry. The initiative is part of a broader strategy that began with the establishment of EHPEA's accredited TVET Training Institute in 2021, which has since trained a diverse group of stakeholders, including unemployed youth and farm managers.
EHPEA's commitment to sustainable and responsible horticultural practices is further demonstrated by its Code of Practice, introduced in 2007, which promotes GAP, social responsibility, and environmental stewardship. To date, this framework has supported the training of nearly 50,000 farm workers.
Horti-Campus is expected to play a pivotal role in strengthening Ethiopia's horticulture sector and preparing it for future growth.
