According to the monthly report from Royal FloraHolland, the average sales for cut flowers, houseplants, and garden plants decreased in May 2025 compared to the same month in 2024. Specifically, sales of cut flowers dropped by 7.4%, houseplants by 3.9%, and garden plants by 5.3%.
Cut flowers
Last month, total sales of cut flowers decreased by 7.4%. This decline included a 3.9% reduction in the number of units sold, and the average price of cut flowers also went down by 3.6%.
The biggest decrease in sales was seen in Tulips, with a 21.9% drop in revenue and a 21% decline in the number of pieces sold. Roses fell by 11.6%, Chrysanthemums by 12.2%, and Gypsophila by 15.1%. Most of the top 15 flower types also experienced a decrease in sales. On the positive side, Hydrangeas saw a 12.3% increase in sales, Delphiniums were up by 3.4%, Liliums by 2.7%, and Eustoma russellianum by 0.3%.
Houseplants
Houseplant sales decreased by 3.9% compared to the previous year. This decline was due to a 6.5% drop in the number of units sold, although the average price per unit increased by 2.8%.
Zamioculcas had the biggest increase in sales, rising by 11.2%, followed by Chrysanthemum with an 8.6% increase. On the other hand, Rosa experienced a 6.6% decline in sales and a 13.6% drop in the number of units sold, though its average price went up by 8.1%. Some other crops saw slight decreases in price, but there were no significant outliers.
Garden plants
Last month, garden plant sales fell by 5.3%. The largest declines in sales were seen in Fuchsia, down 24.4%, Mandevilla, down 20.2%, and Hydrangea, down 15.3%. However, other perennials saw a positive trend with a 12.4% increase in sales and a 12.1% rise in the number of units sold.
The number of auction days was the same as last year.
